The finished top to the Changing Face of Japan. Artwork by the lovely This picture was taken just before I washed off the guidelines; good thing too becuase I forgot the dark blue part of the traditional girl's kimono was krimped silk. Meaning when it went under the water, it puckered big time. I'm hoping the fabric will relaxes enough when it's dry to be ironed out flat again-otherwise this piece is kinda ruined and will need to undergo much sergury. Other than that, I love it! Hand applique, painting, and embroidery. ~Enjoy
EDIT-good news, the silk ironed out! YAY! EDIT 2- If you guys have comments about the artwork for this piece, please so post it on Oddball's original. I just use her lines as a template for the quilt. I realize that it is possible for me to tweak artwork once I get permission to use it for a quilt, but that's just not how I roll. If you want to comment on the sewing, quilting, fabric, etc. aspect of this piece, then go ahead, but keep in mind the artist who originall drew this.
This is gorgeous. I enjoyed looking over the process/progress pictures. I particularly like the fans at the corners of the border. And the hairpiece. This is really a stunning piece.
Now that the top is finished, will you be quilting it?
Thank you! The fans were fun, and so was the hairpiece. In fact the traditional half gave me little trouble up to the silk shriking part.
And yesh, it will be quilted, probably for competition artist willing.
Pirates are so much cooler than ninjas.
I am very pleased with it, and am still constatnly blown away that the artist let me do this. I've had a fair deal of luck getting artists responses here on DA, positive responses at that! It's the eyes that do it for me, every time, once the eyes get painted the piece is just alive.
I never cared much for elves *ducks arrows* no offense, so yeah still Pirates. They'd loose in a battle, but they're still cooler.
huh. interesting interpretation of the original, it turned out very pretty.
the hair in the kimono section should be much bigger, and the "modern" girl makes me think of the character "Nana" more than the average Japanese girls of late. but I should probably be saying this to the original artist, not you.
thank you all the same. And Nana, as well as my punkrock sister, were pretty big influences on the color choices for the modern girls makeup and fabric choice for her jacket. I love that fabric. The hair on the traditional side totally escaped my notice, thanks!
ah, so it was intentional I see! very fun play of textures, from what I can tell. I wish I could see more of the textures in the photo x_x I bet it's amazing in real life...

We likes pirates. We thinks, just quietly to ourselves, that pirates might even be cooler than elves.
